¿En qué momento sentiste que este logro histórico era realmente posible?

Mira, yo siempre soy prudente, pero hubo un punto en la temporada en el que el equipo empezó a competir con una madurez increíble. No solo ganábamos, sino que sabíamos cómo ganar. Ahí es cuando sentí que podíamos hacer algo especial. Aun así, en el fútbol no puedes relajarte ni un segundo. Debemos seguir mejorando porque tenemos grandes capacidades para hacerlo. Confío mucho en este grupo.

¿Cómo gestionaste la presión en los momentos más difíciles?

La presión siempre está ahí, sobre todo en un club que exige tanto. Para mí la clave fue mantener la calma y transmitir confianza. En los momentos complicados es cuando más claridad necesitas como entrenador. Intenté ser honesto con los jugadores, no cambiar el mensaje y confiar en el trabajo que veníamos haciendo. Al final, cuando el grupo cree se ven los resultados.

⁠¿Cuál fue la clave táctica que marcó la diferencia esta temporada?

Más que una sola clave, yo diría que fue el equilibrio. Supimos adaptarnos a cada partido, entender cuándo teníamos que dominar con balón y cuándo ser más sólidos sin él. El equipo interpretó muy bien los momentos del juego, y eso en el fútbol de hoy es fundamental. No se trata solo de tener una idea, sino de ejecutarla en el momento justo.

¿Qué significa este título para el club y para la afición del Johor Darul Ta'zim?

Significa muchísimo. Este club tiene una identidad muy fuerte y una afición que empuja todos los días. Lo que hemos conseguido es para ellos, porque son el alma de todo esto. El Johor Darul Ta’zim FC no entiende de medias tintas, siempre quiere más, siempre quiere crecer.

Este título es una recompensa al trabajo, especialmente a Tunku Ismail Idris, porque su visión, su ambición y su compromiso son los que hacen que todo esto sea posible. Sin esa base, sería muy difícil llegar a donde estamos hoy que es llegar hacer historia

¿Crees que este es el mayor hito de tu carrera hasta ahora?

Es un momento muy especial para mí, no lo voy a negar. Pero más que un hito personal, lo siento como algo colectivo. Lo que más me emociona es ver crecer a los jugadores, ver cómo el equipo se ha unido y cómo hemos superado momentos complicados juntos. Eso es lo que realmente te marca.

Si miro mi carrera en perspectiva, el ascenso a la Premier fue algo muy grande, y ahora alcanzar unos cuartos de final de Champions también lo es. Probablemente, juntando todo, estamos hablando de algunos de los momentos más importantes de mi trayectoria. Pero lo que de verdad le da valor es con quién lo compartes y cómo lo consigues.

Después de ascender a la Premier, ganar títulos en varios países y ahora hacer historia en Asia, ¿cómo se siente Xisco Muñoz y cuáles son las sensaciones y la preparación del equipo de cara a los cuartos de final de la AFC Champions League?

Hacer historia con Johor Darul Ta’zim en la AFC Champions League es algo que emociona profundamente.

Ahora viene el mayor reto: enfrentarnos al vigente campeón, Al-Hilal, y hacerlo en su casa, en King Abdullah Stadium, donde el contexto, la presión y el nivel competitivo son máximos. Sabemos la dificultad que supone, pero también sabemos lo que hemos construido para llegar hasta aquí.

El equipo está preparado, con ilusión y con una mentalidad muy clara: competir sin límites, ser fieles a nuestra identidad y aprovechar esta oportunidad única para seguir escribiendo nuestra propia historia.

WORK DISCIPLINE

My goal is that the player always understands the reason behind each exercise he performs. It's essential for him to recognize the benefits of that activity, as well as the control he gains over that task or situation in the game, and also to understand how this contributes to game day. I'm convinced that the effectiveness of a task is based more on understanding than on obligation. This, among other things, stimulates the player's reactions and fosters his motivation. Therefore, it's essential that we can clarify why and the purpose of each training session.

THE GROUP - TEAM - FAMILY

As a coach, you are in charge of a locker room with young players facing enormous pressure. Many of them have not achieved the necessary tools to handle these types of situations yet. As a coach, it's not enough to focus solely on tactics, technique, and physical work. Furthermore, it is also essential to ensure each player is emotionally and mentally balanced, so they can perform at their best. Therefore, it is crucial to strengthen the players' mental and emotional management, not only by the coach and the coaching staff, but also by enlisting the help of a specialist at certain times.

Hence, my goal is to align both player management and their commitment to a shared vision, driving their development in that direction. As a coach, you must feel that your players trust you and the direction you propose. Player motivation and belief are essential to success.

STYLE

I analyze football as a whole. From my point of view, in modern football, playing systems have become less important.What really makes the difference are the styles of play and the ability to make decisions in every moment.

Football is a continuous flow of actions, and there are four key moments that are closely interconnected: attack, transition from attack to defense, defense, and transition from defense to attack. To manage these four moments effectively, it is essential to have complete mastery of all aspects of the game, both offensive and defensive. Personally, I believe it is easier to control and win matches through ball possession, but fortunately, there are many ways to achieve victory in football.

My main goal is that my team has a clear and defined identity, with well-established game concepts that allow us to find the best solutions during the match. To achieve this, player commitment and understanding of the game are absolutely fundamental.

THE COACH

Coaches must always be aware of advances in the profession. Technology has enormously advanced, but it is not what wins games. Undoubtedly, it gives us more tools, allows us to optimize our time, and improves the way we communicate our ideas, but I believe the essence and soul of football cannot be obtained from technology.

Having been a player adds value to your knowledge of the game, but I do not consider it the only or even the most decisive factor in being a good coach. I believe heavily in managing one's own experiences and in being self-critical about what one has experienced, as this is the only way to progress and continue to improve constantly.
